Esxi will be installed on a virtual machine on VMware Workstation.Download and install vmware workstation from http://www.vmware.com/products/workstation/workstation-evaluation.
Download the iso image for Esxi Server from https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/info/slug/datacenter_cloud_infrastructure/vmware_vsphere_hypervisor_esxi/5_0
You can choose your own version of esxi, here I am working with esxi 5.0
Steps to Install Esxi 5.0
On VMware workstation, go to File>>New Virtual Machine>>Typical>>Installer disk image file (iso):locate your esxi iso and Next>>
Name your virtual Machine>>Choose location to save your Virtual Machine>>
Select Hard drive Size >>
Next>>Customize Hardware>>Finish>>
Power On the Virtual Machine >>
Enter to Continue>>
Press F11 to accept License and Continue>>
Enter to Continue>>
Select Keyboard Layout
Select Password for your Esxi server and Enter to Continue:
Press F11 to continue installation
Installation will continue
Installation will complete.Press Enter to reboot the machine
Esxi is installed and will reboot to DCIU screen
Press F2 and enter the password to login to the Esxi Server and set the management network,DNS settings and host name.
Highlight 'Configure Management Network' and press enter to setup ip address and DNS
This will complete the installation and configuration of our Esxi server and next we will continue with our next step of configuring the private cloud i.e installation and configuration of Vcenter server
